Consultancy fees: £150,000; Extra agency staffing costs: £500,000; Wrecking public services: priceless

Leeds City Council’s cost-cutting plans are descending into farce. Back in October, eleven bin routes were axed. Since then, thousands of bins have gone uncollected on a weekly basis and part of the plans have already had to be axed. What’s more, bin workers face fines of up to £400 per month if they fail to complete the new, longer routes.

The Council still maintains that the plans will save money in the long run, but all we’re seeing at the moment are increased costs for a worse service. This could be the future for all our vital services, if we do not fight back.
